You may not reach for parsley when you have a craving to make a smoothie. But herbs like parsley, cilantro, basil and mint are a great addition for their added health and detoxing effects.

Our bodies are exposed to toxins everyday. They are in the food we eat, the products we put on our skin, the air we breathe. The human body is designed to detox itself but can often get overwhelmed due to the high volumes of toxicities in today’s modern culture. That’s why I love throwing an herb into my smoothies a few times a week to help my body filter out these toxins.

One of my favourite herbs is parsley…

Parsley is fantastic at helping the liver and kidney to detox. Parsley helps to flush out excess fluid from the body, thus supporting kidney function. It really is an amazing little herb. Not to mention it’s packed with nutrients such as Vitamin A, C & K as well as loaded with iron and calcium.

Parsley can have a distinct taste in smoothies and can take some getting use to.  I recommend using 1 cup maximum and if your new to parsley altogether try 1/2 cup to start.

I like mixing it with a mild green such as baby spinach so the greens don’t over power each other. Pineapple is a great combo with parsley and definitely my fav!  But others mix well also such as mango and pear.
